Android developer - IPTV/OTT
Job Role & Responsibility • Design, develop, and maintain advanced Android applications for IPTV/OTT platforms. • Implement features such as: o Playlist integration (M3U, Xtream API, JSON, etc.) o Electronic Program Guide (EPG) integration o VOD, Series & Live TV playback o Catch-up TV and DVR functionalities o Subtitles and multiple audio track support o Favorites, Recently Watched, and Continue Watching • Optimize app performance for smooth video streaming (HLS, DASH, RTMP). • Work with video players (ExoPlayer or custom player) and integrate DRM solutions. • Implement offline viewing / download features where applicable. • Collaborate with backend/API developers to integrate content management systems. • Ensure app compatibility across various Android devices (phones, tablets, Android TV, Fire TV, etc.). • Maintain code quality, organization, and automation. • Stay updated with the latest Android and video streaming technologies. Skills • 5+ years or 8+ years of proven Android development experience using Kotlin. • Strong knowledge of Android SDK, Android TV, and UI/UX design principles for large screens. • Hands-on experience with ExoPlayer or other video playback libraries. • Deep understanding of streaming protocols (HLS, DASH, RTMP) and adaptive streaming. • Experience integrating EPG (XMLTV/JSON) and playlist formats (M3U, Xtream Codes). • Familiarity with DRM technologies (Widevine, PlayReady). • Experience with API integration (REST, GraphQL). • Knowledge of offline storage, caching, and iCloud/Google Drive sync equivalents. • Knowledge of app security, encryption techniques, and secure streaming (token-based authentication, DRM, HTTPS, SSL/TLS) along with experience in unit testing and testing frameworks for Android. • Strong debugging and optimization skills. • Familiarity with Agile development practices and Git-based version control. Nice-to-Have Skills • Experience with OTT/Streaming platforms development. • Familiarity with cloud services (AWS Media Services, Firebase). • Experience in integrating ads (Google IMA, VAST, VPAID) for monetization. • Knowledge of AI-based recommendation systems.
