GIS Analyst II

Overview Join our dynamic team as a GIS Analyst II and play a pivotal role in advancing spatial data management, analysis, and visualization. This energetic position offers the opportunity to leverage cutting-edge GIS technologies and tools to support infrastructure projects, land surveying initiatives, and data-driven decision-making. As a key contributor, you will collaborate across departments to enhance mapping accuracy, streamline data workflows, and deliver insightful spatial solutions that drive operational excellence. Responsibilities • Implements analytical techniques necessary to solve recurring, procedural, and factual geospatial and GIS issues. Knowledge of legal land descriptions, right of ways & leases. • Administers geospatial databases and implements quality control and assurance guidelines for geospatial data projects within ESRI parcel fabric environment. • Participates on interdisciplinary teams with various stakeholders such as other federal agencies, Regional Geospatial Coordinators and other BIA divisions on various mapping projects. • Implements analytical techniques necessary to solve recurring, procedural, and factual geospatial and GIS issues (i.e. identifying data needs for specific projects, determining compatibility with other platforms, locating missing information). • Knowledge of geographic/cartographic sciences, interdisciplinary resource management, and database management in order to learn to administer geospatial databases. Knowledge of appropriate database design principles in order to identify interrelationships within GIS data. • Knowledge of standardized geospatial and GIS software/hardware applicable to the BIA/tribes. • Ability to develop and maintain metadata for all GIS projects for the Division. Experience • Proven experience working with GIS software such as ArcGIS and CAD tools like AutoCAD or similar drafting applications. • Strong understanding of land surveying principles combined with practical GPS data collection skills. • Demonstrated proficiency in SQL databases, relational database management systems, and data modeling techniques. • Skilled in scripting languages including Python and JavaScript for automation and customization of GIS workflows. • Experience with data visualization tools to create engaging maps and reports that facilitate decision-making. • Knowledge of project management principles applied within geospatial projects involving construction or infrastructure development. • Ability to analyze complex spatial datasets using analysis skills to derive actionable insights. • Familiarity with SharePoint or other document management systems for organizing geospatial project files. • Leadership qualities with experience guiding junior team members or leading small projects related to GIS or land surveying initiatives.
